We are Suits Unlimited, formerly known as Mr. Casual, and we are a full service men's shop to the New Mexico area. Our main concern is building a lasting relationship with a client so that when he needs to restock his wardrobe, he thinks of us. Our staff are experts in all areas of men's wardrobes and outstanding customer service. We also provide same day service for tailoring of garments. We want our customers to know their needs will be taken care of when it comes to men's clothing.
Our history starts with owner and CEO of Suits Unlimited, Larry Garcia. We were founded in February of 1971 and did business as Mr. Casual. The product mix at the time consisted of men's denim jeans and casual wear. The first location of the company was in Eastdale Shopping Center in Northeast Albuquerque. Larry then brought in the help of his two brothers, Ben and Manny Garcia to help manage the business. Within six months of the grand opening at Eastdale, Mr. Casual opened another location in the Northdale Shopping Center in Albuquerque's North Valley. Manny was tasked with managing Northdale, while Larry and Ben managed Eastdale.
In 1974, Mr. Casual opened up a third location in the Coronado Shopping Center and Ben moved from Eastdale to become the manager at the new store. The brothers signed a 15 year lease with the center's management.
In 1977, Larry saw an opportunity to purchase real estate in northeast Albuquerque. On Menaul Boulevard, a hardware business known as "Mead's Tru-value Hardware," was purchased by Mr. Casual. Larry had brought in his father, Manuel Sr., to manage the newly acquired hardware store. It was renamed Mr. C's Hardware. Six years later, the hardware business was phased out and the inventory liquidated. Mr. Casual held on to the property and leased it to several businesses over the next few years. As leases expired for the Eastdale and Northdale shopping centers, Mr. Casual was consolidated into the Coronado Center location.
Throughout the 1980s, Mr. Casual saw its product mix gradually shift from casual wear to more suits and business attire to meet new demands of the decade. By the mid 1980s, Mr. Casual was seen as a major source and retail outlet for men's suits and Suits Unlimited was added to the name. In 1984, formal wear and tuxedo rentals and sales were added to the company's clothing assortment.
In 1992, the lease for the Coronado location expired and the brothers were faced with a major decision. The shopping center wanted to relocate Mr. Casual's Suits Unlimited into another location within the mall to make way for a food court or leave the mall entirely. The brothers then decided to make use of the property on Menaul Boulevard. They renovated the building that stood there and set up Mr. Casual's Suits Unlimited as a store-front destination menswear business.
As more and more suits, ties, and dress shirts began filling our racks, we dropped Mr. Casual from the name and now run our business as Suits Unlimited. We have been in business for more than 40 years and could not be happier doing what we are known for, exceptional quality service and quality menswear products for every New Mexican gentleman.
